It’s hard to nail down an exact origin point with blues music, but it’s pretty much accepted that it started in the South, around the 1860s, and was born from the field hollers and work songs sung by slaves working the fields, living through terrible times of suffering, expressing their agony. The freed slaves working as sharecroppers also sang in the fields as they worked, possibly fine tuning what would become one the the most influential styles of music in history. Blues music tends to be expressive of going through difficult times, and has influenced other types of music, including rock and jazz.
